Vintage style! Retro 50s skirt and first self-designed pattern

This is the skirt I made over the basic dressmaking evening classes I’m attending at AFOL Moda in Milan. It’s a fifties style skirt with tucks both on the front and on the back and a side opening, with a lapped zip and a button. The exercise was to choose a model (Pinterest is a great source of inspiration :)), design your own pattern based on your measurements and sew the skirt.

I used a beautiful 100% wool fabric, petrol green, from the Luigi Colombo wool mill bought on Supercut.it, a normal black zip and a diamond-cut button found into my mom/grandma’s old buttons box.

I hemmed up and made the buttonhole both by hand.

I really like the result! So far the most beautiful thing I made!

This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the pattern, the fabric, the colour…and the styling with the pink top and black tights! Also, when I was reading through the posts I was thinking the location looked so familiar to me..then when I read at the end of the post that it was Bellagio I realised I visited on holiday when I was 7 years old!

Look forward to seeing your next pattern 🙂

Thank you Cerian! You’re so kind! 🙂 Bellagio (and Lake Como in general) is an amazing place, we’re so lucky to have these beauties so close to home! And it is also a perfect location for a vintage outfit 😉 See you soon!!! 🙂 Martina

This is such a beautiful skirt! I love the fabric, the color, and how you styled it. Beautiful! Did you make the pattern yourself?

Thank you so much Tatiana! 🙂 Yes, I made the pattern myself, over a evening sewing classes… It was so fun! Hope to try again with a new skirt pattern soon 😉

it’s beautiful! I love everything about it! I read your about page and I too come from a family of seamstresses but only now at the age of 30 started sewing and I too fell in love with it and started blogging about it. You do beautiful work. It must be in your blood! I look forward to seeing your future projects.
